Craft techniques using paper and natural fibres with a wide variety of textures.
Cati Marí Forteza
These paper lamps created by Cati Marí Forteza fully absorb the local environment, using natural fibres from the sea. The use of natural fibres that give texture to the pieces results in a sensorial product that comes to life.
The natural fibres used in the process are locally sourced, such as the remains of Posidonia, which can be found on the surrounding beaches, to give the handmade paper new shades and different structures. The use of this plant in production results in a wide variety of beautifully structured paper studies. Based on the skills and creative potential, paper craft techniques were used to create a new product.
Each individual lamp evokes a different feeling, diffusing marine scents; combined with beautifully selected recycled paper and cardboard from a home-office in similar colours and feel.
Creating the piece intuitively allows for more freedom in the production process, creating unique organic pieces.

“I have tried to highlight the expressions and senses of the material, and to create a link with the natural environment.
“The resulting material is a thick, mouldable paste for creating pieces with moulds.
“These shapes are transformed into cone-shaped lights first, and then into round ones after discovering the shapes into which the material can be moulded.
“The next step was to turn the flat paper into a three-dimensional object. To shape the mass produced, a conical shape was chosen, inspired by limpets, a mollusc with a conical shell that lives clinging tightly to coastal rocks.”
