Neo canterano
The chest or canterano drawers is one of the most important and deeply rooted typologies in Mallorca in the 18th and 19th centuries. They replace the old boots and chests that were traditionally used to store clothes and could be found in different rooms, etc.
With this design we wanted to recover the old concept of container furniture, which is undoubtedly still in use and, functionally, it is multipurpose, depending on the measurements.
It can be used to store clothes, documents, objects, as a TV stand, a storage unit, etc.
Structurally speaking, the sides of the shelves of the external and main box are mitred to make them stand out from the rest of the pieces, and their union is made with the old dovetail technique, which gives extraordinary strength and solidity to the whole.
Aesthetically, we have made a nod to the old canteranos, which always had rich decorative motifs. In this case, we have placed the drawers in the background to emphasise the shape and colour of the handles, supports and edges. The colour red also alludes to the ancient meaning of prosperity, vitality and dynamism.
