Research and innovation
This research section is based on experimentation, on the promotion of research and on how the materials and traditions of our environment can be understood so that designers can later show their potential.
On the one hand, the UIB/FUEIB, through the Research Group on Architectural Constructions and Building Engineering, leads research based on local waste materials of organic and inorganic origin. It is carried out based on the identification of different raw materials from waste organic materials of local origin with many possibilities; as well as from other inorganic materials, especially of petri origin, which can be combined with organic materials to give rise to new mixed, sustainable, ecological and biodegradable materials.
On the other hand, research based on historical documentation can capture the concerns expressed by a new generation of creatives linked to fashion who focus their interest on manual crafts to give value to their products.
We let the material and the narrative drive the design process. By exploring the limitations and opportunities, new expressions, surfaces and textures are created. When we design from the available resources we create more sustainable and circular solutions. This is where, at this point, design, as a discipline capable of adding value, comes into play.
