Research and innovation in materials
This section is based on experimentation, the promotion of research and on the way in which the materials of our environment can be understood so that designers can later show their potential.
The Architectural Constructions and Building Engineering Research Group of the UIB/FUEIB lead research based on local waste materials of organic and inorganic origin. It involves the identification of different raw materials from local organic waste that offer many possibilities; as well as from other inorganic substrates, especially stone, which can be combined with the organic materials to produce new mixed, sustainable, ecological and biodegradable materials.
We let the material and the narrative drive the design process. By exploring constraints and opportunities, we create new expressions, surfaces and textures. When we design with available resources, we create more sustainable and circular solutions. At this point, scientific development has fulfilled its initial purpose, leaving design to add value to this research.
